News update: Jigar Mehta

by matthew on May 3, 2011

We’re delighted to report that Jigar Mehta, creator of the crowd-sourced documentary #18DaysInEgypt, will be joining us as a participant. Jigar is a 2011 John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, and President of the South Asian Journalists Association.

Meanwhile, we’re on the home stretch with organizing the event. Here are some more highlights:

On Saturday afternoon, we will screen two short films, Opening Series #2 & # 3, by celebrated Canadian filmmaker Phil Hoffman. These are experimental films shot on 16mm; the audience chooses how they are sequenced prior to viewing, based on the artwork adorning each canister. Phil will then splice them together on site.

Also on Saturday afternoon, the wonderful David Reisch, programmer of the Korsakow System (Version 5), will be available to answer conceptual and technical questions relating to your own Korsakow projects. The sign-up for Dave’s ‘Korsakow Clinic’ will be at the registration desk on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Finally, please note that we have switched Marsha Kinder’s and Florian Thalhofer’s keynotes around. Florian’s interactive Korsakow lecture will take place on Friday at 4pm (we will provide the laser pointers!); Marsha’s keynote Remixing DNA will be on Saturday at 4pm. NB both keynotes are open to the public.
