News Update: Visualizing digital nonlinear narratives

by matthew on May 4, 2011

On the right side of the website we are curating a small collection of sketches, schematics, diagrams and screengrabs contributed by some of our participants. They show, variously, a map drawn by a contributor to a documentary on a Métis community, and a schematic of the web doc itself drawn by its maker; a diagram for an installation, drawn by the artist; concepts sketches for the Korsakow System, version 5, by its inventor; screengrabs for an ongoing art project tracking Google’s search-term suggestions; a formal schematic for a web documentary; and, a screengrab from a new CMS for multimedia scholarship. (Keep refreshing the page to see new images. Click on the images for links to the related projects.)

Digital nonlinear narratives are often fetishized for their technical prowess and aesthetic polish, but rarely do we see under the hood, so to speak. These images remind us of the complex relationship between producers, artists, collaborators, and audiences, which is often reduced to a mere encounter between GUI and a lone viewer. (All visuals copyright their respective owners.)

Further down the page, we’ve added a growing list of confirmed attendees – an exciting and accomplished group of artists, makers, and scholars who will be joining us at DNA in just over one week!
